NICK HRUTKAY |Advising, Audition Material, & Monologue Prep

Nick Hrutkay is an award-winning director, arts leader, and educator based in Pittsburgh. He has spent nine seasons on the artistic staff at Stagedoor Manor where he is currently the Director of Education and Assistant Artistic Director, and is on the faculty at Point Park University.

 

His work has been seen in New York and across the country, having directed over 80 productions at theatres including Theatre Row, The Brick, The Kennedy Center, Central Square Theater, The Media Theatre, Hippodrome Theatre, Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks, Alchemical Studios, Playwrights Local, The Huron Playhouse, Keystone Repertory Theater, Point Park University, and Stagedoor Manor.

Nick is the former Artistic Director of Keystone Repertory Theater and The Huron Playhouse, one the longest-running summer stock theaters in the United States. He has overseen several new work development initiatives, currently spearheading the Musical Theatre Junior Lab at Point Park University focusing on cultivating new musicals, and has served as a Dramaturg for Dramafest at Stagedoor Manor leading the annual new work festival while mentoring students whose selected plays were published through Stephen Sondheim's Young Playwrights Inc. He has also been heavily involved with The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival having three productions, The Embalmer, Black Friday: The Musical, and Discovering Eden, invited to perform in the Region II Fringe Festival.

 

He has taught at Point Park University, Stagedoor Manor, Hippodrome Theatre, Quantum Theatre, Stagedoor Manor Studios, Stagedoor Manor College Connection, Raue Center School for the Arts, The Huron Playhouse, Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks, and Pittsburgh Musical Theater, where he was the Chair of the Acting Department for the PMT Conservatory. 

 

Nick is the recipient of an ArtWorks Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Region II / Stage Directors and Choreographers Society Fellowship, a BroadwayWorld Award for Best Director of a Musical, and has been honored with over a dozen other award nominations. nickhrutkay.com

JARED MCFARLIN | Audition Song Prep

Jared McFarlin is a music director, pianist, and educator based in Utica, New York. He enjoys passing on a love of music and the arts to the next generation, coaching growing musicians, and helping facilitate artistic endeavours in his community through theatrical productions, concerts, and other outreach projects.

 

Jared joined the staff at Stagedoor Manor in 2023 after a diverse career on the west coast, including 10 years as a high school band, choir, and theater director, and also significant work as a collaborative pianist. He has performed with OperaBend (Bend, OR) and a wide variety of musicians throughout the Pacific Northwest. He received the 2023 Amazing Educator Award (Pamplin Media - Portland, OR) for his work at Madras High School in central Oregon.


Jared is music director for Utica University Theatre and Notre Dame High School Blue and Gold Players, and performs regionally as a keyboardist for professional and educational theater programs. He is the collaborative pianist for Oneida Area Civic Chorale (Oneida, NY), maintains a private studio, and teaches with the Utica City School District. Recent show credits include Into The Woods and Baby (Utica University); The Wizard of Oz (Yorktown Stage); and Once Upon a Mattress, Bonnie and Clyde, 13, Twelfth Night, and Singin' In The Rain (Stagedoor Manor).


Jared holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Eastern Washington University, a Master of Music from Central Washington University, and musical theatre conducting training from NYU. You can learn more about Jared at mcfarlinmusic.com

HAYLEY SAMEN | College Connection Supervisor

Hayley Samen (she/her), Associate Producer at Stagedoor Manor is thrilled to be the Program Supervisor for the College Connection program. Hayley's interest in higher education came from her passion as a special educator. She has three degrees in education and values all students as different learners with unique paths to higher education. Her drive to make the college process more equitable drives her programming to help both high school students and Stagedoor Manor alumni. In addition, Hayley is passionate about our Stagedoor families and helping them through the difficult theater program application process and auditions.

REVA STOVER | Audition Monologue Prep

Reva Stover (she/they) is a director, playwright, actress, dramaturg, producer, and arts educator from Orlando, FL with a BFA in acting from the University of Central Florida. Prior to being the Co-Artistic Director of Azuka Theatre, she worked as a private coach and teaching artist for over 5 years. They’ve written works such as Goldie and the Green Mountains (First World Theatre/PWTF), Running (Wings of Paper Theatre), Hungry for Paint (Little Yellow House Studio),  a series of pieces inspired by Shakespearean sonnets (Revolution Shakespeare), Reasons (Art and Vine Entertainment), and Moments (PWTF). Reva has directed shows such as Rocky Horror, Zombie Prom, Mr. Burns, Overwinter, Language of Angels, Tuck Everlasting, A Hit Dog Will Holler, and more. They’ve Assistant directed at The Arden, The Lantern, Weston Theatre Company, and Orlando Repertory Theatre. Reva's work often combines Afro-surrealism, social horror and environmental theatre to examine how our sociocultural and sociopolitical systems impact marginalized communities. They are particularly interested in new, underserved, and reimagined works which center the perspectives of these communities. Through collaborative play, explorative movement, dramaturgical analysis, world-building, and thoughtful conversation, they aim to tell meaningful and entertaining stories that enrich communities and leave audiences thinking. revastover.com

CATY WANTLAND | Audition Dance & Pre-Screen Choreo Prep

Caty Wantland is a choreographer, educator, and actor. She joined the Stagedoor family as Director of Dance in 2023, where she choreographed ANASTASIA, EVITA, and two sessions of Master Dance. She is based in Brownsville, TX, where she serves as the Dance Director for Gladys Porter ECHS. Caty graduated from UTRGV (Formerly UTPA), earning a degree in Dance Performance with a concentration in Flamenco and Modern Dance. As a freelance artist, Caty has choreographed a number of works for studios, competition solos, college auditions, music videos, and has served as an educational consultant for several high school and conservatory programs. She has choreographed countless musicals for Camille Playhouse, St. Joseph Academy, and Brownsville Repertory Theatre, where she currently serves as Resident Choreographer and ballet/jazz teacher for the Youth Conservatory Company. Some of her notable credits include WEST SIDE STORY, TARZAN, CABARET, NEWSIES, and IN THE HEIGHTS. Caty’s work has also been commissioned by arts activism collectives such as Activating Vacancies Arts Incubator, and Las Imaginistas’ yearlong civic engagement project, “Hacemos La Ciudad.” Caty has also collaborated with visual artist Josue Ramirez for an original performance art piece that premiered at the Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival in San Antonio, TX.  Caty received Broadway World Regional nominations for Best Choreography in both 2021 and 2022.
